CORONA VIRUS UPDATE

All:

Rugby Virginia has issued a new statement regarding the status of high school and youth rugby in Virginia:

-----

Rugby Virginia Community,

Yesterday evening USA Rugby updated its COVID-19 statement to indefinitely suspend all rugby activities.  The suspension includes all competitions (e.g., regular season games, regional tournaments, championships, etc.).  As a result, the Rugby Virginia Spring 15s season is cancelled.

The Rugby Virginia board will continue to coordinate with USA Rugby to address player, parent and volunteer safety.  While we are saddened by canceling the spring 15s season, we hope that rugby activities will resume in time to play a full summer 15s season.

You can read USA's Updated COVID-19 statement here.  As was already the case, the suspension includes both on-field and off-field activities.  To be clear, USA Rugby will not accept accident and liability claims during the suspension.

Please continue to take safety precautions.  As of this afternoon, there are more than 150 known cases of COVID-19 in Virginia.  #FlattenTheCurve

Best Regards,

Ian Wright

President, Rugby Virginia

--------------------------

This means that Fort Hunt Rugby will not be engaging in any rugby activity until further notice.

We will continue to work with and consult USA Rugby, Rugby VA, the Fairfax County Parks Authority, and Fairfax County Public Schools.

And, we will continue to update everyone as we receive more information and guidance.

Please follow work and medical guidance, be socially responsible, do your part to make this crisis tolerable and manageable, and take care of each other.  I remain available at all times for your questions.

Come play rugby with us!

We are a youth rugby club established in 2006, offering a program of fall rugby developmental activities, an organized spring state-level and regional competition leading to possible national and regional all-star opportunities, and a summer recreational rugby 7s season for boys and girls high school (U-19) and girls middle school/youth (7th/8th grade, 5th/6th grade) players (no boys MS at this time).  We are the 2012, 2014, 2016, 2017, and 2019 boys Virginia state high school champions, and are currently ranked the #7 in the US as a boys high school club program.  Our boys fresh/soph team is ranked #2 in the country...among state all-star teams.  Our girls team is the Virginia state champion runner-up in 2012, 2013, and again in 2014.

Our purpose is to introduce youth--and parents/supporters--to the lifetime sport of Rugby Union Football, an outstanding and immensely fun sport to play and to watch, which offers players improved strength, fitness, and coordination, and teaches discipline, decisionmaking, teamwork, comraderie, closely controlled and focused tackle contact, in an environment emphasizing fun, high-level competition, tradition, sportsmanship and respect for teammates, opponents, and officials.
Looking for Middle School Coaches: we have equipment and full structure/organization in place to support our own dedicated middle school teams for girls and boys, but we need coaches.  No experience necessary--we will teach you.  If you'd like to run 7th/8th grade boys or girls rugby, please contact us.

Fort Hunt Rugby, 2019-2020

As of 1 September 2019 it's a new rugby year, and everyone must register with USA Rugby.  This is an annual requirement.

ALL players must register with USA Rugby. This is a mandatory annual online registration, and is valid every year until 31 August.

Click here to register with USA Rugby.

Make sure you sign up for the right Fort Hunt Rugby group:
Boys high school players: "RV-Fort Hunt High School Boys"

Girls high school players: "RV-Fort Hunt High School Girls"

Girls middle school/youth players: "RV-Fort Hunt Youth Girls"

DO NOT sign up for "West Potomac" rugby--this is a local adult/men's club.

Click the "REGISTER NOW" link at the top of this page to register for Fort Hunt Rugby.  This is a club registration--in addition to USA Rugby registration--and is mandatory.  You cannot play with our club unless you are a member in good standing.

Players who need assistance with registration fees do have to pay the full registration amount, but must pay a minimum of $20  per month to be a member in good standing with the club, and to be eligible to train and play in matches.  Contact Coach Dacey (below) for specifics, and to arrange payment.
